Abstract

Although the LISMI was enacted 30 years ago, a sufficiently positive degree of labor insertion of persons with disabilities has still not been achieved. Numerous factors have contributed to the lack of improvement in terms of the quality and quantity of contracts for this group. Generally, progress has been made in recent decades, but analyses from different perspectives must be done to improve the current situation.

This article aims to identify some of the influences the information and knowledge society has had on employment, specifically among persons with disabilities. These factors, if taken into account, can prevent a much more negative situation and, moreover, can be precursor of the improvement of the employment possibilities of this group.

From a current economic point of view, Torrent (2008) suggests a particular analysis that will help us delve deeper into this situation and to work on some aspects of improvement. This view can be used either specifically with persons with disabilities or to create new supported employment projects.

The article shows that the professional profiles promoted mainly by supported employment do not fit together with a large part of the employment model imposed by the information and knowledge society. But there is also change of paradigm in which these companies are working that visualizes an immediate future better adapted to the new economy.
