Experience for the improvement and monitoring of competencies of professionals in the direct care of people with intellectual disabilities

Abstract

During the year 2011 the Centre Ocupacional Can Serra (hereinafter Can Serra) belonging to the Patronat Municipal de Serveis d’Atenció a les Persones de Martorell (hereinafter PMSAPM) is conducting an experience of professional skills improvement. This process is carried out with the full support of the PMSAPM director and with the participation of all the members of the Can Serra team together with an external coach and consultant.
The professional skills required by the Generalitat de Calalunya for working with users and also for working in a team framework have been used as the starting point. Then, team coach sessions and personal interviews have been combined to elaborate the development plan of each professional. These plans are evaluated periodically.
